i'm fairly talkative and hyper, but really open and easy to get along with. i find it strange that most people that know me treat me as someone outside of gender roles which only really makes sense if you see me interact with people. i smoke far too much and drink heavily and often, and i'm totally okay with people knowing that, and if that's a huge turn off then that's fine too. i don't expect those close to me to follow my lifestyle, but just let me live it. if anything, i try to make sure not to get any of my friends started on smoking cause i know how much it can suck. but i still do it. meh.

i tend to get what i want and i'm pretty adept at figuring out what people want to hear. this helps me greatly in school, being an English and Communications major. my drunk alter ego is Princess because i can get a little demanding but for some reason my friends (and strangers) give in.

i've often been called a social chameleon but i think i'm starting to figure out who i really am. big step. i've also been told that i have the mentality of a 13 year old girl. i think this has to do with my constant viewing of the disney channel and my love for pop music.

i can be really childish and shallow and perverted and mean, but it's usually more to make people laugh or to entertain; once you get actually close i can be quite insightful and meaningful and i do care deeply for my close friends. love them bitches.

I just recently moved to Ann Arbor after spending the last six years in New York City and am adjusting to this drastic change of lifestyle! I spent the last three months backpacking through Europe after quitting my interior design job. It was an incredible experience and one I hope to do again! I still work freelance in design and I'm also a freelance writer.

I grew up on the east coast but moved a lot when I was younger (born on the west coast and had a couple stints in the deep south too) This constant moving made me very laid back, go with the flow attitude with a fair dose of spontaneity. I love trying new things, whether it be a new restaurant or going to see a band that I'd never heard of before.

It's safe to say I LOVE travel and try to do at least one overseas trip a year with a few domestic ones thrown in for good measure as well. Outside of the very stereotypical love of travel, I love finding cute little bookstores and finding my next favorite book, playing with my new DSLR and experimenting in photography, trying different cuisines, and going out with my friends.

Right now I'm mostly interested in my business developing iPhone applications and to a lesser extent photography. I like scuba diving but haven't been in a long time, unfortunately. I need a dive partner.

I think I must be the care-taking type in some sense, because I'm not happy if I'm not helpful to others.

An odd collage of random things about me:

- When I talk, I use my hands. A LOT. Someone recently tried to get me to talk without using my hands, and it did not go well.
- I am a repository of useful and random facts about some specific things; mostly because I read a lot of newspapers, magazines and blogs.
- I've become more picky about buying clothes over the years. It has to fit well or I won't buy it. I'm kind of obsessed with boots. I like flat/low-heeled leather calf-to-thigh length ones, but I really really want thigh-high pirate ones.
- I will spend money on books, electronics, and one-of-a-kind interior decor. And I don't own a house.
- I'm willing to try new food, as long as I'm not allergic. Sometimes what I eat gets boring and I want to sharpen my palate.
- I know it says i'm less compassionate than other girls; that's not entirely true - i just don't stand for stupidity or stupid people.

I am 22, im in my last year of college, I work "part time" but it probably should just be considered full time with how many hours I put in. Im 23 I do actually have a job, I work in health care. I as well am a student. Since i work in a clinical setting i have to keep my arms covered since i have tattoos. So far i have a 3/4 sleeve on my left arm and im planning for more within the next 3 months.

To start my summary off, I tend to be on the fence with a lot of issues. I'm the laid back hippie-type, easy going, but I do let things get to me from time to time.

Be warned - I come across as a bit of a dichotomy. Some meet me and say I'm too serious. Some meet me and immediately know I was the class clown in high school. Some say cocky, others say confident. I am all about life: the good, the bad, the bitter, the sweet. I'm a person that believes art is one of the grandest things to have happen in human history (this includes music, food, dance, visual media, graphic media, performances...I think you should have the picture).

I'm fairly laid back. Not into drama, but I understand sometimes it just happens. I'm honest and blunt (Its often better to rip that damn band-aid off, so to speak).

I have a dark and dirty sense of humor. I try to keep myself from letting life get me in the muck.

I'm also a realistic romantic. This means I want romance and will do romantic things. But I'm not going to ever be a white knight, especially not one in shining armour (Do you know how long it takes to buff those things?); I may be a gray knight. I also know that romance isn't what it used to be.

Snark is my verbal weapon of choice. I use it and quite well. I have a love hate with puns. I enjoy language but am terrible at it.

I'm both infinitely complex and finitely simple. I'm an enigma warped in a paradox of simplicity, that seems excessively complex. I'm easy once you learn the trick to the box. I'm "Schrödinger's cat", I'm those weird zen koans. But once you open the box or figure out why Buddha is a cat, then you'll get me. Mind you this is all metaphor.

I'm quite atypical, I think that normalcy is for the sheep and conformists.

Ok, first, I know you want to know why I've hidden my face. Well, I wanted to be candid and honest about motto of SWED without fear of repercussions. Secondly, girls always stress the desire for guys to look for character over looks. Well, I thought I'd turn the tables around.

Ok, the following is a rant about my thoughts that most people don't understand how to fill out the "most private thing I'm willing to admit" section.
If you wrote something like, "none of your business" or something equally cryptic, then you misread the question. It asked for the MOST private thing you're willing to share. If that most private thing is your favorite type of cereal, or the name of your first crush, then say that. If you've filled out any other section, that means you're sharing information that is private on some level. I think people read the word 'private' and think it is asking for some deep, dark secret. Most people wouldn't have deep, dark secrets on their list of "things I'm willing to share with strangers", but everyone has some information they would share. Anyways, I'm not sure why that bugs me. ^_^

I'm not sure that I'm looking for anything specific, maybe just to meet a few people and broaden my social circle a bit. If someone awesome comes along, then great! Otherwise, more friends are always great, too...

I'm a big fan of watching thunderstorms. If someone else is shoveling it, I like the sight of freshly fallen snow. I enjoy summer Sundays spent on my bike and and autumn Saturdays watching college football and watching hockey is always great. Go Redwings! hehe I like barbecues in the late spring and cuddling with a book and someone special on winter evenings. I have recently begun to learn how to swing dance and it's a load of fun.

I think any pizza is better with mushrooms. I think burgers are better with olives. I put banana peppers in tuna salad.

I also feel it is only fair to be completely up-front about this: I work in animal research. I know some people take issue with that and I respect their opinion, however I love what I do and have no desire to do anything else. So, if that is something you aren't ok with, well then we probably wouldn't be a good fit. I just wouldn't want anyone to feel like they had wasted their time by not knowing off the bat :)

I like playing rugby. Its a good way to get out my frustrations by tackling the other team. Scrumming is fun.

I also play soccer and run cross country.

I want to meet new friends because lately I have been working a lot and spending too much time online. I was born in Russia, but have lived in Michigan most of my life. I live for good intelligent conversation. Politics are very important to me, but I think both the Democrats and the Republicans are flawed. I see them as two parties both representing big business rather than we the people.

I am a libertarian socialist. I strongly believe in the philosophy of "Live and Let Live." I think that people should be able to interact with one another through voluntary means without coercion from illegitimate authority.

Also I am very opposed to Monsanto and GMO foods. I strongly support industrial hemp and am very opposed to poverty.

Besides politics I also like watching Youtube videos, laughing, enjoying nature, throwing around a football, reading, writing, philosophy, psychology, traveling, listening to music, playing cards, playing air hockey, making art and social activism.

I am open to the idea of polyamory but have never been in a poly relationship before.

I'm an academically-inclined grad student with penchant for distraction and diverse interests. I study musicology with side trips into film and art history. I also love public transit, maps, old advertisements, word games, miscellany. The world is fascinating.

Consider the following exchange typical of my thought process:
Me: What did the cucumber say to the cook?
Gillian: I don't know.
Me: Eat me! I'm delicious and full of healthy vitamins!
Gillian: Ah. Wouldn't it be more like "Eat me, I'm full of water and you look dehydrated?"
Me: Yes, but cucumbers aren't known for their honesty.
I also make puns.

I can't quite characterize myself as shy, because I'm pretty actively talkative with friends, and really have no shame. But I can't do small talk, and find that I can't relate to most people I get randomly thrown together with, so I come off that way.

Usually entertaining grad student "liberal elitist bastard" (not really) who never gets bored, enjoys his life, and is not a fan of conversing with a generic text box form on a website. This is not my natural habitat. The internets weird me out.

I'm a single mom of a great kid...couldn't ask for any better. Exp that he likes to call people out on their shit, that can either be really funny or really embarrassing depending on what it is lol. But my son is my life and he will always come first, no matter who comes into my life!! I love that boy to death.

I'm a teacher and play in a band on the weekends. I am passionate about both jobs....my students and music. I love animals and the outdoors. I love to fish, some gardening, woodworking, and flea markets, art fairs, antiques. At home I like to cook and people tell me I'm pretty good at it. Used to play a lot of backgammon and chess and would like to again. I don't work out regularly, as you probably can tell by my picture, but I do enjoy walks in the metroparks and bicycle rides. I also like to dance but it has been a while. My adult son lives with me and works full time. We get along great. Probably the two most important things to me are honesty and trust. You can't have a good relationship without those. Friends are important to me and I do help them whenever I can. I guess that's all for now.

As a person i am constantly growing and changing. Taking My experiences to heart to better myself. I find it comforting to see people grow, and to know that no matter what happens, you can still be successful in life, even when times are hard. I really hate seeing people who give up on themselves and let every little thing in their life get them down. I am the get back on the horse person, that everyone talks about, as an Aries, i will beat my head senseless trying to attain my goal.
